Unusual papers

Accidental impalement injuries of the intraperitoneal rectum caused by the barrel of the self loading rifle. Jackson DS. J R Army Med Corps. 1985 Oct;131(3):164-6

Penetrating anorectal injury. An unrecognized hazard for surgeons.
Dennison AR,Britton BJ. Dis Colon Rectum. 1984 Sep;27(9):624-5.

In case you are wondering. I came across them during a PubMed search on collagen.

PubMed sounds like a wonderful idea. If more pubs had a medic on hand to soothe incipient hangovers, shoot tranquilliser darts into the tedious and hand out motorised wheelchairs to the temporarily non-ambulatory, I think the NHS would be in far better repute than it is today.

You don't want to put ideas about expanding the NHS out into the community into peoples heads Philip. Before you know it, your surgeon will be dipping his scalpel in his whisky before plunging it into your chest cavity on top of the pool table. If his focus is lower down then it may not just be the pool players who are missing a ball post-surgery.

How about this classic "unusual" paper which I found after a search on HLA. A scientific case for more... sorry if offensive. And clearly this type of research comes from the Netherlands for a reason.

Sorry Dan. Your link only goes to the PubMed homepage rather than any search result.

I can see the dilemma the authors have, but I don't think producing a paper during the act will have any positive benefits.
